Wedding Details Finally In!
Date: March 19, 2005
Place: Cedarvine Manor in Lebanon, TN
We are registered at Dillards, Beds Bath and Beyond, and Sears The Proposal (How it went down)
First, it is important to know something about the ring. Janet knew I wanted to pay cash for it, but thought I wouldn't be able to afford to for another month or so, then it would take about 4 to 6 weeks to order it and get it in. So, She didn't expect anything until around November or so. BUT WHAT SHE DIDN'T KNOW: I purchased the ring and got is sized and had it back in my hands about a week before I left for the Ukraine. AND BELIEVE YOU ME, IT WAS BURNING A WHOLE IN MY POCKET, but I knew I wanted to wait until I got back. I didn't want to get engaged then leave to head overseas. Well, this is how it went, keeping in mind that this was all planned out with a number of places where it could have gone quirky, but all of it flowed smoothly.
Location: Madison Square Mall in Huntsville, AL. DATE: Monday, September 6th (Labor Day), Time: Noon. Covert Ops Personel: Christina Metcalf (Digital Camera) and Jeff Cooper (Video Camera). The covert ops were taking video and pictures the entire time.
We planned on eating at Noon at the Chic-fil-a there at the Mall. Covert Ops were positioned in the arcade. We got our food and set down with Janets back to the arcade. Meantime else where Doug (bass) and Butch (bari), who are two of the members in our quartet, met at noon and drove over from Athens along with Doug's wife. Janet and I finished eating around 12:20 and they weren't there yet. I had to stall a bit so I complained about my stomach hurting and asked if we could just sit there for a while. We enjoyed watching other people eat and converse. About 12:30 Doug and Butch came into the food court. I saw them and got to feeling better so we got up and went shopping. As we went to throw our trash away we bumped in to them and couldn't believe it! hehehehe Butch said, "If we only had a lead we could sing some tunes." I said, "Oh well, good to see you guys, we are going to head out and do some shopping." We said our goodbyes and walked away. In case you are wondering, Janet did not think it was too unusual because we have bumped in to each other (all four of us) accidentally before. So we left and walked away and went to Parisians to look around. About 5 minutes later, my cell rings and it was Doug. "David, You will never believe it! Jackson's here! Let's meet at the elevator on the lower level and sing a few." I said, "Sure thing." When I look at Janet, she was like, "I can't believe it, do we have to go." I said, "Come on, I told them I would meet them there already." Janet is very shy and the idea of drawing attention to ourselves doesn't fly real well with her. The entire time we walk down to the center area, Janet is like, "Can't I just go shop while you do this. Do you have to do this?" Etc. Etc. Etc. Finally, I just look at her and say, "Ok, I will just call and let them know that I can't sing today, and we will go shop." "No No No," she said, "you have already told them you would meet them, lets go." "Are you sure?" I ask, and we go back and forth a few times with me saying, no, I'm not going to go, and her saying, yes, go! So we go.
Now, picture this, it is Labor day and people are singing around the stage in the mall. Naturally, a crowd gathers, a large crowd. :) We sing a song to a young girl who was being held by her dad, then to an older lady. Then finally, I said, "Guys, we have embarrassed Janet enough, lets sing one more to her and Bethany (our lead's wife) and we are going to go back to shopping." This song was called "I Love You Truly" and I wrote a second verse to it. By the time I got about half way through the second verse, I pulled the ring out of my pocket. You could hear the little ole lady's saying, "Oh, He's got a ring!!" Then as I started the tag, I got down to one knee, took her hand, and sang "Janet will you marry me dear." Actually, I don't remember all of what I actually sang, I just know I asked her that. By this time, I was so far off in lala land, I didn't even hear if she said yes. She was beaming from ear to ear and I stood up and whispered to her, "You did say yes right?" She looked at me and smiled and shook her head and said, "Of Course!" And then I yelled "SHE SAID YES!!!!!" and everybody clapped and it was just great! I said to her, "Smile and look up and wave." She looked up and my covert ops revealed their hiding places and it was great. We waved, everyone came together, we sang another song or two, then hopped on my motorcycle and headed back to Fayetteville, then on to Murfreesboro to telle everyone.
So thats the story, I am engaged and its just great! I love her and am ready to get married! :)
